Topic:  Freaked over Fair Isle? Curious about stranded colorwork techniques? Intimidated by multiple strands of yarn in multiple colors? Not sure how gauge works or how to trap those floats? This is the workshop for you! We’ll cover basic Fair Isle knitting techniques for English, Continental, and Combination knitters, tackle common issues, proper technique, how to trap floats, Fair Isle history and set good Fair Isle knitting habits. We’ll put everything we learned into practice while knitting up the Briar Rose Cowl. No previous colorwork experience necessary.

Skill Level: Beginner- able to knit in the round, no previous colorwork experience necessary

Supplies: 

  • 2 Highly Contrasting Shades of Worsted-Weight Yarn (sample uses Queen City Yarn Wesley Heights Worsted in 2 hanks Slate and 1 hank Briar Rose), 400 yds A and 218 yds B

  • Size US 7 (4.5mm) 24” circular knitting needles

  • Stitch Markers

  • Tapestry Needle

  • Sticky Notes

  • Copy of Briar Rose Cowl patter available at tanisknits.com or ravelry.com

Homework:  With A, Longtail CO or German Twisted CO 168 sts (knitter’s choice). Join into round being careful not to twist, pm for bor.

  • Work [k1 in A, p1 in B] for 8 rnds.
  • knit 1 rnd in B.
