Deborah Robson

Deborah Robson began spinning in the 1970s when prepared fiber wasn’t available, so she learned by using raw wool and immediately became interested in the different breeds of sheep and the types of fleeces they grew. Her questions about all types of wools intersected with her interest in the rare sheep breeds, and since the answers she wanted weren’t available, she started researching. Her curiosity and research led to the Save the Sheep project sponsored by Interweave Press and to a four-year journey of spinning every fiber-grown-by-an-animal she could get her hands on. That journey ended up becoming The Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook: More than 200 Fibers from Animal to Spun Yarn, which she co-authored with Carol Ekarius.

Deb also recorded a set of instructional DVDs called Handspinning Rare Wools for Interweave, has taught workshops, and authored The Field Guide to Fleece: 100 Sheep Breeds and How to Use Their Fibers.

When not spinning, thinking, or writing about wool, Deb lives in Colorado with her daughter and is a freelance editor and somewhat successful gardener.
