Description: Learn the fascinating 400-year-old Swedish technique of Tvåändsstickning, or twined knitting, by creating one of a pair of fingerless mitts.  Working in the round, the techniques covered include: twine knitting, twine purling, the crook stitch, the "O" stitch, reading a chart, and the Chain Path, the twined knitted increase, an asymmetrical thumb gusset, and traditional motifs.  The Herringbone Braid is an optional addition.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Homework: Main color yarn MUST be wound into a center pull ball if it is not already a pull-skein.  Find both ends of the ball before class.

Tools Needed:
  • Yarn: No single ply yarns.  Around 4 oz. light colored worsted weight wool yarn, preferably light colored.  The skein must be wound as a center-pull ball because you will be working with both ends.
  • 1 oz. contrasting yarn of the same weight for cast on edge and edge finish.  Heathers and fuzzy yarns obscure the patterns.  Four-ply yarns show the textures best.
  • Needles: One set of 7" long (or shorter) double pointed needles, size US 6 (4mm).
  • Notions: Tapestry needle and stitch markers, waste yarn for holding stitches, sticky notes or a magnetic board to keep one's place on the chart

Materials Fee: None
