Learn Fair Isle with Simple Mitts

Description: In this class, you will learn the basics of Fair Isle colorwork as you make a pair of simple knits. In addition to the basic technique, you will learn how to avoid the common mistakes beginners make in this classic colorwork style. It’s easier than you think!

Necessary materials: Two colors of worsted weight yarn (about 200 yards of the main color and 100 of the contrast); set of US Size 5 (3.75mm) DPNs  (or whatever type of needles you use for knitting in the round); stitch markers.

Bring the required advance work!

Required advance work: Cast on 36 stitches and arrange on 3 DPNs . Join without twisting. Do 3 rounds of 1x1 ribbing (k1,p1). You can use any cast-on you like. I recommend long-tail, if you are familiar with it, or the knitted cast-on.

Experience level required: Must be comfortable working in the round using DPNs or two circulars or magic loop, knit and purl with ease, be able to cast on and cast/bind off
