Learn Steeking!

Steeking is the process of cutting a garment that you have knit in the round in order to create an opening in the fabric. The opening can be the front of a cardigan or an armhole.

In this class you will learn the crochet chain method of securing the stitches in the steek, cutting the steek, and how to pick up the stitches.

Homework:

Using worsted weight, 100% wool (do NOT use superwash), cast on 48 stitches using a US 8 (5mm) needle. Join and knit in the round, placing marker. Knit in stockinette until tube is 5 inches when measured from cast on. Bind off, block lightly.

Supplies for Class:

-bring your knit tube!

-tapestry needle

-Approximately 3 yards of 100% wool yarn in a contrasting color, yarn should be lighter then worsted weight (Sport weight works well. I will have extra, if you do not have this).

-sharp pointed scissors

-stitch markers

-crochet hook, size E or F

Skill Level

This is an advanced beginner class. Knitters should be able to

Cast on stitches

Knit in the round (whatever method suits you: double point needles, magic loop, two circular needles, etc).
