Class Title: Embellishing Knits

Instructor: Kristin Nicholas

Overall Skill Category: Beginner to Advanced

Class Description:  Do you love knitting colorful creations but Fair Isle or Intarsia techniques aren’t quite your thing? Step into Kristin’s world of embellishing knitwear with a needle and thread. The easy techniques you will learn will help add personality and panache to all your knitwear. And they are a whole lot of fun too!

Techniques Covered: Decorative embroidery on your knits is easy to do, once you master a few stitches. Kristin Nicholas, Master Knitter, Embroiderer and Author, will show you her secrets to beautiful, colorful, successful embroidery stitches to decorate your handknits. You'll learn duplicate stitch, chain stitch, spider web, cross stitch, french knots and many more. By the time you leave, you will be accomplished enough to decorate your ho-hum knits with fanciful designs.

Supplies to Bring to Class: Metal tapestry needle with a large eye and blunt tip, at least five colors of the same smooth, #4 (worsted weight) yarn used for swatch (odds and ends are fine), sharp scissors.

Note about the yarn: choose colors that look pretty together, at least one of them should be a green based color.

Your usual ditty bag of knitting notions, including tape measure, scissors and tapestry needle.  Paper and pencil for notes.

Pre-Class Assignment: Knit an 8 x 8 swatch in worsted weight yarn. Choose a color you like as it will be the basis for your decoration. Optional: Knit a second 4 x 4 Fair Isle Swatch (any pattern) in the same yarn.

Class Size:  Limited to 20 students
