Description: The Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible: 260 Exquisite Designs by Hitomi Shida, recently published in English, includes five practice projects, one of which is a hat with traveling twisted stitches and lace. Join the translator to knit the hat and gain experience and insight into the complex charts and symbols. We'll start the body of the hat with a provisional cast-on, then practice chart-reading and some of the more complex maneuvers to be sure you can finish the project later at home. The pattern will be provided; you don't need to purchase the book.

Skill Level: Advanced.  You must be comfortable knitting in the round from charts.

Homework: Make a gauge swatch, choosing yarn and needles that give you a gauge of 22 to 24 stitches and 34 rows to 4" in stockinette.

Tools Needed: Approximately 220 yards of DK or sport weight yarn.  Needles to obtain gauge of the type for your preferred method of circular knitting (magic loop, DPN's or two circulars).  Recommended 16" circular and DPN's of the same size, plus 16" circular two sizes smaller for ribbing.  Small amounts of smooth waste yarn.  Cable needle.  Crochet hook for provisional cast-on.

Materials Fee: None
