Description

Ready to learn how to design your own shawl? Jen Lucas, author of the best-selling book, Sock-Yarn Shawls and Sock-Yarn Shawls II, will go through all the steps of designing your own sock-yarn shawl from start to finish. Students will learn to design a top-down triangle shawl. Class will cover everything you need to know to create your design from the garter tab cast-on, inserting in the desired lace patterns you want to use, all the way to the bind off.  See teacher bio.

Skill level 

Intermediate - Knit/purl; cast on/bind off; increase/decrease; ability to read and follow a pattern and be comfortable with knitting from a chart. 

Supplies Needed

  • 100 yards (375+ yards, if you want to continue knitting an entire shawl at home after class) of a smooth, solid, light-colored fingering weight/sock yarn
  • different sized knitting needles for swatching (Needle sizes US 3, US 4, and US 5 are best; circular needles 24” or longer recommended)
  • pencil with eraser
  • pens and/or highlighters of different colors
  • tapestry needle, stitch markers
  • notebook or something to use for note-taking.

Homework 

  • Cast on 16 sts. Work 12 rows in garter stitch (knit every row).


  • Leave on needles, and bring to class.
