Whether you are knitting with self-striping yarn or a bag full of mini skeins, attached edgings are a wonderful way to change the direction of your stripes. Thoughtfully placed vertical stripes add pizzaz to your knitting and flatter your figure.

Skill level needed: Adventurous Beginner and Intermediate Knitters

Skills learned:

  • Learn a cable cast on.

This class will begin with a tutorial on the simple, useful cable cast on method. I will share my tips for joining the cast on stitches to your work using a new color (Hello, Rainbows!) while keeping your tension loose and even.
  • Learn to work a clean, eye-catching attached edging.

We will learn my favorite method for working a knitted-on border using a self-striping yarn or mini skeins. I will share my tips for:

(i) creating a clean connection between the attached border and the rest of your garment,

(ii) keeping track of your stitch count,

(iii) matching your Bind Off tension with your Cast On, and more!

  • Learn to pick up stitches along the edge of the attached border.

To end this class, I will show knitters how to pick up stitches along the edge of an attached border. This skill allows knitter to add attached borders not only at the end of their knitting project, but also to the middle! We will focus on a tidy method for an evenly distributed pick up.
