Description

Join renowned  knit-toy  designer for  some seriously  fun sheep  knitting and  toy-knitting  tips. The pattern will be provided for students. In class students will work on knitting their own Sheep! toys in either a textured wrap stitch, a loopy stitch or some simple stranded colorwork. Susan’s classes include large group discussion, small group demonstrations and individual attention. As students work on their selected sheep style loads of general toy-knitting tips and tricks will be taught as well. Tips and guidance on face embroidery, stuffing tricks, fiber choices, gauge information, and ways to get your toys to look great and to stand the test of time, and more will all be shared. Students will leave class being more confident toy knitters!
Finished Sheep! measurements: Body length 4-inches, height 3.5-inches

Working in the round on a small number of stitches on double-pointed needles, increases and decreases

Supplies Needed

  • 50 grams of a sport weight yarn, preferably 100% wool, for a single color sheep For the colorwork sheep bring 3 colors of a sport weight yarn, preferably 100% wool, weighing in total about 50 grams. Important Yarn Note: 100% Wool will work best for this toy. A sticky rustic wool or 100% wool will make the knitting much easier especially for the Loopy version. Slippery yarns do not work as well for any of the three Sheep! versions.
Yarn used for samples: Quince & Co. Chickadee, sport weight, (181 yards/50 grams), 1 skein for the solid sheep, 3 skeins in contrasting colors for the colorwork sheep. Colors used: Loopy sheep: Chanterelle Textured sheep: Egret Colorwork sheep: Iceland, Pomegranate (Main Color) and Petal (Contrast Color)
  • Needles: US size 3 (3.25 mm) double-pointed needles, set of 4, or size to obtain gauge Gauge: 6.5 sts per inch in stockinette stitch
  • Detachable stitch markers
  • Tape measure or ruler Yarn needle
  • Polyester fiberfill
  • Black embroidery floss
  • Scrap yarn
  • Cable needle

Homework

  • Bring the necessary materials and come ready to work!
  • Check your gauge and needle size. Successful toy knitting requires a tighter and denser gauge than for other types of projects. The tighter the gauge, the better the toy will turn out in the end.
  • Complete the base or belly of the Sheep! pattern before class. This part of the pattern will be emailed to you after you sign up for the class. Bring the completed Belly to class, it will have live stitches, and we will pick up from there and carry on!
