An Introduction to One-Color Brioche Knitting (Plain Brioche)

 Instructor: Mary Jo Harris
Location: Wisconsin Craft Market

Brioche knitting has been around for centuries but is still  considered a "mystery" to some.  While two-color brioche can be very dramatic, one-color brioche can also look very striking.  Come learn this mysterious way of using slip stitches and either knit or purl stitches to create either a scarf (knitted flat) or a cowl (knitted in the round).

 In this class we'll discuss:
--a brief history of brioche knitting
--How to create the plain brioche stitch using slip stitches and knit or purl stitches, on an even or odd number of stitches
--How to make a brioche scarf and/or cowl

Supplies:  Bring these to class:

  1. One ball of a light colored smooth yarn
  2. Either straight or circular needles in a size appropriate for your yarn
  3. stitch markers
  4. scissors and usual knitting supplies
  5. Paper and pen/pencil for taking notes

Experience level required:  Students need to know how to cast on, knit and purl.,  If  making the cowl, also need to know how to knit in the round.
